This is a great video with a discussion between Vincent Laforet (who basically started the DSLR for filmmaking thing) and Illya Friedman, who runs hotrod cameras that does major modifications to HDSLR’s.
As a disclaimer I personally own a modified PL mount 7D (pic above) and feel that it is the best way to go if you want to use such a camera on a professional film set. There is still a place for using standard stills lenses, and there is some amazing work being done with them, however there are trade offs.
Thinking of Modifying your HDDSLR to a PL Mount? from Vincent Laforet on Vimeo.
Hey mark, i noticed in one of your posts that you had a tokina 11-16 on your new PL 7d. did you have that modified to PL mount? are there any issues with that? I’d like to have an aperture ring installed on that lens.
Hey Ed, will do a proper post in the forum soon on my kit but in short the lens has been quite heavily modified. New aperture ring, new markings and damping for iris and zoom ring. Some smoothing and damping of focus ring and a new front stage that goes to an industry standard 80mm. Main issue is being PL you loose any auto functions. The company that does the mods is http://www.ducloslenses.com . They also “de-click” iris rings on other lenses.
